Posted Jan 29/12 - Glencoe Brewers Baseball Association Board elects new officers!

At the January meeting of the Glencoe Brewers Baseball Association Board meeting the board elected their officers for the 2012 year:

President:  Mike Paggen

Vice President: Dave "Slick" Sell

Treasurer: Brian "Parker" O'Donnell

Secretary: Lisa Beringer

Congratulations to the newly elected officers!

The Board also accepted resignation letters from Matt Roberts, Dave Hoernemann, Sandy Boesche, Dave "Smiley" Style, and Dan Schade. The Board and everyone associated with the Glencoe Brewers is very thankful for the service that Matt, Dave, Sandy, Smiley, and Dan provided to the organization throughout all of their many years serving on the Board. Their service shined when it mattered most during the 2011 Minnesota Amateur Baseball State Tournament held at Vollmer Field.

John Thell, President of the Board for the past several years, informed the board he would be taking a sabbatical from the board for the 2012 year. Everyone will still get to see John up in the press box along with Dave Hoernemann running the scoreboard and doing the announcing at the Brewers home games. The Glencoe Brewers organization thanks John for his commitment to the organization while serving as President of the Board.

Matt Rolf and Troy Higgins were in attendance and were appointed as new members to the Board. Welcome Matt and Troy!

Posted Nov 21/11 - Brewers name new coaching staff for 2012 season!

On November 13th the Brewers governing board accepted the resignation of manager Nate Gorr. Gorr coached the Brewers for 3 season and compiled a 50-44 record as skipper of the Brewers. Gorr lead the Brewers to the state tournament in 2009 and deep into the Region 7C tournament in 2010. The Brewers named Scott Wawrzyniak as their new manager. Dave Sell and Grant Grochow were named assistant managers.

The Brewers 2012 roster will also have a new look. Long time Brewer sluggers Dan Ford, Jason Schade, and Josh Monahan announced their retirement following the 2011 seasons. The Brewers also lost Mitch Lang to retirement and Keith Trudell followed a job opportunity in Green Bay. Returning from abroad for the 2012 season is Tony Beringer. The Brewers are looking to add a few more players to fill the big shoes left by the retirements.

Welcome to the Glencoe Brewers Home Page

The Glencoe Brewers recorded history dates back to the 1930s. While it appears there were several years when Glencoe was unable to field a team, whenever it did, it was successful. Newspaper records indicate the Brewers qualified for the state tournament in 1932 and 1947. In 1987, the Brewers co-hosted the Class C & B state tournament while also earning a place in the 1987 state tournament. Glencoe returned to state again in 1988, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2004 and 2009. In 1998, state tournament MVP Brian Jenneke's record-breaking pitching performance led the loaded Brewer lineup to a Class-C state championship in Hamburg.

In 2011, Glencoe  co-hosted the Class B & C state tournament with Brownton.

The Brewers home diamond is Vollmer Field in Oak Leaf Park on the southern edge of Glencoe. An effort by local residents in the 1980s turned Vollmer Field into a jewel of a park for little leaguers, school teams and the Brewers to call home. The partnership between the City of Glencoe and the Glencoe Baseball Association continues to allow Vollmer Field to host dozens of games for local youth each year. Majestic evergreen trees now tower over the park, forming a natural perimeter just outside the outfield fence. The Buffalo Creek flows past Vollmer Field's northern edge. The area's most popular city pool and its water-spraying fountains sit beyond the centerfield fence and are just outside the reach of even the most powerful cleanup hitter.
